What’s inside
Each card prompts you in English and asks you to produce the Japanese — recall, not multiple choice. The back reveals the neutral and casual forms with furigana and plays the audio so you can check pronunciation and register.

The one thing a flashcard can’t do
An Anki card
Shows you the answer and asks you to grade yourself. Great for recall — but it can’t tell you whether your sentence was actually right.
JIVX
Grades the sentence you actually produce — any valid phrasing, by text or voice — and tracks what you know. The deck is the on-ramp; the grading is why people stay.
Get your answers graded →Keep going past N5
N4 through N1 are here too — same format, same native audio. They’re part of a JIVX subscription, which also unlocks those levels in the app and the AI grading.
Subscriber decks
N4–N1 decks require a JIVX subscription — the same levels you unlock in the app. Not subscribed yet? The download will take you to sign up.
Questions
- Is it really free?
- Yes — the N5 deck is completely free, no account or sign-up required. Download it and import it into Anki.
- Are there N4, N3, N2, and N1 decks too?
- Yes. Anki decks for N4 through N1 exist as well, but they require a JIVX subscription — the same levels you unlock inside the app. The free N5 deck is the full beginner set; subscribing opens the rest.
- Does it include audio?
- Every sentence carries native-quality audio for both the neutral and casual form, and you can choose a male or female voice before downloading.
- How do I import it into Anki?
- Download the .apkg, then in Anki choose File › Import (Desktop) or just open the file on AnkiMobile / AnkiDroid. All 501 cards import into a single JLPT N5 deck.
- Will the deck stay up to date?
- Re-download anytime. Cards use stable IDs, so re-importing updates existing cards in place instead of duplicating them — each card shows a version stamp so you know which edition you have.
- How is this different from JIVX itself?
- An Anki card shows you the answer; it can't tell you whether your answer was right. JIVX grades the sentence you actually produce — any valid phrasing, by text or voice — and tracks what you know. The deck is the on-ramp.
